Our readers are always asking for suggestions for how to cook for families that have different dietary needs and preferences, especially families that include both vegetarians and meat eaters.

For this reason, I decided to develop a series of a la carte proteins, which can be cooked individually and separately from a meal, and then added by the individual if they so choose.

This Easy and Delicious Quick BBQ Chicken is an easy and tasty main dish that is easy to prepare in under 30 minutes, and it can be used for both serving as a main dish or topping several other dishes.

This is a chicken recipe that Apronese thinks will save you a lot of time and effort in cooking but still produce a delicious bbq chicken prepared.

What are you waiting for, don’t start working right away.

Quick Bbq Chicken: What to Serve with It

This chicken is so versatile that I have paired it with mac & cheese and jerk-seasoned collard greens, but it also tastes great with Cowboy Caviar, Potato Salad, Spicy Sweet Potato Fries, Creamy Cole Slaw, and Roasted Broccoli.

It is also possible to slice it up and use it as a topping on a loaded mashed potato bowl, a loaded chicken pizza, or a loaded chicken salad.

It can also be used to make BBQ chicken pizza, BBQ chicken quesadilla, or even a loaded mashed potato bowl, as well as for salads or pizza.

Can I Use Any Kind of Chicken?

The recipe was created for boneless, skinless chicken breasts, but I personally prefer to use thighs due to the fact that they are so tender and they crisp up nicely because of their additional fat on the edges.

I think it is a great recipe for boneless, skinless chicken breasts, but I personally prefer bone-in chicken. However, this recipe does not work well with bone-in chicken.

The bone-in chicken takes a lot longer to cook, which is why I recommend baking, braising, and slow cooking it.

How Much Does This Recipe Make?

Depending on the chicken pieces you have, this recipe should be adequate to cook around 1 lb. for about 15-20 minutes.

Should you want to double the recipe, simply add the chicken in batches at a time until cooked, making sure that there is no overcrowding in the skillet, which will prevent browning of the chicken pieces.

How Should I Choose a BBQ Sauce?

There are lots of different types of BBQ sauces that you can use for this recipe. I also don’t have a particular preference when it comes to BBQ sauce, so I used a Kroger brand hickory smoke barbecue sauce that I happened to have on hand.

Sweet baby ray’s has very affordable BBQ sauces, too, which is also a good source for good BBQ sauces.

Prep Time: 10 mins/ Cook Time 15 mins/ Total Time: 25 mins

Servings: 4 ¼ lb. each

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika ($0.10)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder ($0.05)
  • 1/4 tsp salt ($0.02)
  • 1/4 tsp freshly cracked black pepper ($0.03)
  • 1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken ($4.63)
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil ($0.04)
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce ($0.11)

Instructions

  • In order to ensure quick and even cooking, pound chicken breasts to a uniform thickness. A mallet or rolling pin can be used to pound thicker areas of the breast into an even thickness of 112 to 34% of thickness. Cover the breasts with plastic wrap and place on a cutting board. Chicken thighs do not need to be pounded.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle the mixture over all sides of the chicken pieces and season them with the spice blend.
  • Add the cooking oil to a large skillet and whisk to coat the surface of the pan. Add the chicken and cook both sides for about 5-7 minutes until well browned and cooked through (165oF internal temperature).
  • Allow the chicken to rest for five minutes before slicing or serving. Stop the heat and brush both sides of the chicken with BBQ sauce.

*The recipe can be done with either chicken breasts or chicken thighs. In the photos below, I have used both types of chicken, so you can see how the two different types of chicken are cooked.

Quick BBQ Chicken: How to Make It – Step by Step Photos

Chicken breast on a cutting board covered with plastic, pounded with a rolling pin
One pound of boneless, skinless chicken breast, boneless, skinless chicken thighs, or a mix of both can be used in this recipe.

If you’re using chicken breasts, make sure they are pounded evenly to about 1/2 to 3/4-inch thick so they cook quickly and evenly.

You must first place the chicken on a cutting board, cover it with plastic to prevent splatter, and then pound it gently until it is even with the thinner end with a rolling pin or mallet.
