The Barbadian celebrity spent $21 mιllιon to buy one of The Century’s largest homes, a penthouse that occupies the entire 40th floor of the building, in order to remedy this situation. The apartment was sold by the billionaire co-founder of the technology company Afterpay, Nick Molnar, who had initially requested $28 mιllιon. However, Rihanna negotiated a substantial discount and likely used L.A.’s mansion tax as leverage, as the purchase was consummated on March 31, a day before the new tax took effect. If the transaction had occurred in April, Molnar would have owed an additional $1,1 mιllιon in taxes.
As soon as guests step off the private elevator landing into the condo’s entrance gallery, they are stunned by the curved wall of floor to ceiling windows in the living area, which affords views of the metropolitan skyline. The kitchen is all white with marble countertops, two islands, and high-end appliances. The dining area has dark brown hardwood floors that continue into the kitchen.
