As the temperatures here in Tennessee have reached oppressive levels, I’m looking for food that’s quick, easy, and low in heat.
I made these easy Tuna Patty (also called Tuna Cake) this week and they were delicious. I like them best over a bed of greens, so I make my favorite Comeback Sauce for them. They’re quick and easy to prepare, and they’re delicious.
Tuna Patty – What is it?
The Tuna Patty is made with canned tuna and is similar to a burger. These are usually stuffed with tuna, egg, and breadcrumbs, as well as seasoning to give them extra flavor.
A delicious golden brown coating is achieved by flattening the mixture into a patty and fry them. It’s easy to make tuna patties over and over without becoming tired of them since you can season them in so many different ways.
This is a perfectly delicious dish with a fairly simple preparation, not too complicated or fussy.
How to Make Seasonal Tuna Cakes
I used Tony Chachere’s Creole seasoning, which is basically Creole-flavored seasoning salt, to season my tuna cakes.
In the event you cannot find Tony’s or want to try something else, you could use another seasoning salt, like Lawry’s, or choose another seasoning blend, like Old Bay Seasoning or lemon pepper.
It is recommended that you add a little extra salt to your patty mixture if your seasoning blend is not salt-free.
What to Serve with Tuna Patties
When served with my Comeback Sauce, tuna cakes are best served on a bed of greens, like a salad. It’s also possible to stuff them into a pita with some tomatoes and greens, and a little sauce on the side. A party appetizer could be miniature cakes served with toothpicks and dipping sauce.
There are many different ways of serving, as long as you find it reasonable, but this dish with green vegetables will be less boring and make the dish much more delicious.
Options for Sauce
My tuna cakes are served with Comeback Sauce, but if you don’t like that sauce or just want to try something else, these tuna patties would also be great with several other sauces.
Even a squeeze of fresh lemon juice would be great if you’re looking for something light and simple. You can also try sriracha mayonnaise, ranch dressing, tartar sauce, yogurt dill sauce, and creamy Caesar dressing.
This is a dish that can be served with a variety of sauces, or you can try with any of the types available in your home, who knows, an interesting new discovery.

Step-by-step Guide to Making Tuna Patties
Two green onions and two tablespoons of parsley should be coarsely chopped. When I make this, I chop the green onions rather than slice them, so they mix in better. Drain one 12oz bottle a can of chunk light tuna in water.
Add the drained tuna, along with ½ cup plain breadcrumbs, one large egg, and green onion parsley to a bowl, along with 2 Tbsp mayonnaise, 1.5 tsp lemon juice, and 1 tsp seasoning salt.
You don’t want to over mix the ingredients (just mix them until evenly combined). This job requires me to use my hands.
Using this seasoning will give you the same results as using any seasoning salt or any seasoning blend you prefer. If your seasoning blend does not contain any salt, you will need to add some extra salt.
Form each patty by dividing the mixture into four equal portions. A large skillet should be heated over medium heat. When the pan is hot, add a couple of tablespoons of cooking oil and swirl the pan to coat the surface with oil. The tuna patties should be added to the skillet when it is hot.
You should cook the tuna cakes for about five minutes each side, or until they are golden brown.
Over a green salad or in a pita, serve warm. Don’t forget to drizzle some Comeback Sauce over the top.
