The pesto I use in my kitchen has been a favorite for a long time.
Although it may be somewhat more expensive, a tiny bit of it goes a long way in adding a lot of flavor to any dish. I really like this Pesto Cheese Toast.
It is a super easy, quick and easy appetizer that can serve as a side dish to dinner, or even just as a little snack at night. It reminds me of the fancier cousin of garlic bread, a delicious appetizer.

What Kind of Pesto to Use
That’s the great thing about this tasty toast, you can use any pesto that you have or whatever you like best. It is possible to use a basil pesto, a sun dried tomato pesto, a kale pesto, whatever you like best.
The Genovese pesto I’m using today is a creamy basil pesto. There are also several other affordable pesto brands that I like: Felipo Berio, Classico, and Alessi.
What Kind of Bread to Use
Regardless of whether you are using French or Italian loaf bread, this recipe will work wonderfully.
It is possible to cut the bread into traditional slices like in the photos, or you can slice the loaf in half lengthwise, then you can cut the halved loaf into slices like in my Homemade Garlic Bread recipe.
This really depends on how much bread you prefer to add to the toppings.
If you like to get a little creative, you could also turn it into a pesto pizza by using small pieces of naan or English muffins instead of the pizza.
Pesto Cheese Toast: What to Serve with It
I think pesto cheese toasts are a great alternative to garlic bread when serving pasta or something like tomato basil chicken, as well as being served with tomato soup. It is also a great addition to any meal to make the toasts more interesting.
Moreover, these cheesy little toasts are also a great party appetizer. The best way to serve this for breakfast is to eat it with a fried or scrambled egg for breakfast. There is nothing better than egg, pesto, tomato together.
Pesto Cheese Toast
Whether you’re catering a party, need a snack, or are preparing dinner, pesto cheese toast is a delicious alternative to garlic bread. It’s a great appetizer, snack, or side to accompany your meal.

Ingredients
- 4 slices bread ($0.66)
- 2 Tbsp pesto ($0.45)
- 1 Roma tomato ($0.28)
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella ($0.42)
Instructions
- You need to preheat the oven to 400oF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice a loaf of French or Italian bread into slices that are 12 inches thick and place on the baking sheet.
- Using a spatula, spread 1 tablespoon of pesto over each piece of bread, then place the slices on a baking sheet that has been prepared.
- In this recipe, you will need to slice up the Roma tomato into eight slices and then top each slice of bread with two slices of tomato.
- The final step is to add a large pinch of shredded mozzarella to each piece of bread in order to make it look like a pizza.
- As soon as the cheese starts melting on the toast and the edges start to crisp up, the toast may need to be reheated for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the toast is golden brown. The baking time may vary depending on your oven and the type of bread you select, so keep an eye on them.

Pesto Cheese Toast: How to Make It– Step By Step Photos
Slice a loaf of French or Italian bread into 11-2 inch thick slices and place on a prepared baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Every slice of bread should be spread with about 12 tablespoons of pesto.
Two slices of Roma tomatoes can be topped on each piece of toast once a Roma tomato is sliced into eight pieces.
As each piece is toasting, sprinkle about 2 tablespoons of shredded mozzarella over it (or more if you like!).
Ensure that the outer edges of the bread are toasty and the cheese has melted during the baking process!
Afterwards, I topped mine with a bit of freshly cracked pepper, but this is not necessary. The pesto is packed with so much flavor that you won’t need it to be overpowering.
Bread has been eaten a lot, so why not try garlic bread with Apronese, right? It only takes 15 minutes, you can also make a delicious dish like in the store.
