In fact, there is one thing I’d like to avoid very much and that is touching raw chicken. Without going into detail, I’ll just say that I try to limit the amount of time I spend touching raw chicken.

When you read my blog frequently, you will know that I always list really low prices for my boneless, skinless chicken breasts.

I buy it only when it is on sale, because that is why I usually only buy it at a reasonable price.

Once I buy the chicken, I divide it into individual pieces, wrap each individually, and freeze them so that I can defrost them at my convenience later on.

The process of wrapping and freezing chicken was one I absolutely hated when I first began doing it, but after learning this little trick, I was able to do it.

With this easy technique, you can quickly and easily wrap each piece of chicken beautifully, without having to worry about any chicken skin coming in contact with the chicken.

Woot. You will be blown away by how amazing this is.

How to Divide and Freeze Chicken

Step 1: You’re going to need fold-top sandwich bags and a gallon sized freezer bag to prepare this dish. You might want to use more than one gallon sized freezer bag.

You should label the freezer bag with the contents and date so that if the chicken happens to get lost in the freezer, you will still be able to know what it is if you discover it later on.

Step 2: The freezer bag opening should be folded back so that the wrapped chicken breasts can be inserted without touching the outside of the bag (I want to spread as little raw chicken juice as possible into the freezer bag as possible).

The number of fold-top sandwich bags that I need (one per chicken breast) is also removed from the box, so that when I reach into it with sticky chicken hands, I will not be grabbing the box of sandwich bags and pulling them out.

Step 3: As soon as you open the chicken package, invert one of the sandwich bags over your hand so that the inner surface of the bag is inside out and protecting your hand.

Grab one of the breasts of chicken with the hand covered in the sandwich bag and eat it with the sandwich bag on your hand.

Step 4: Once you have folded the flap in, it is now neatly wrapped in its own little package, and you have had minimal contact with the chicken. Yay.

When you flip the sandwich bag both ways, you will find that it wraps around the chicken breast tightly. Pop the flap in to enclose the chicken breast.

Slide individually wrapped chicken breasts into large zip lock bag and seal

Step 5: When the chicken breasts are wrapped, slide them into the freezer bag and repeat the process with the remaining chicken breasts.

You have a freezer full of chicken ready to defrost whenever you need it.

That whole process only took about five minutes to complete, and the thin sandwich bag kept the frost from building up on the surface of the chicken, and the thick freezer bag prevented air from getting into the chicken and preventing freezer burn.

Note: Although this process is relatively mess-free, it is certainly a good idea to wash your hands thoroughly afterward and to disinfect your countertops with antibacterial solutions.

Salmonella is not fun, and you do not want to risk the possibility that it could contaminate other foods.
