The holidays have arrived, and we’re now in the middle of what I call “food season.” First of all, Thanksgiving, then Christmas, and now New Year’s Eve and football season!

As you anxiously watch your team play on game day, I want to provide you with some tasty appetizers so you won’t be tempted to order in. Here are some homemade snacks you won’t mind eating for dinner.

How to Make Baked Chicken Wings Crispy

The fat in the chicken wing combines with the cornstarch to produce extra crispy skin when it is baked, so coating chicken wings with cornstarch will make them even more crispy when baked. Occasionally, when I bake chicken wings, I add both cornstarch and a small amount of oil to the chicken wings rather than just dusting them with cornstarch.

It is a good idea to add a little bit of oil to the chicken wings in order to make them brown and crisp up more evenly, so that they are great when you serve them plain, without any sauce on top. Even so, it’s still much easier and a lot cleaner than deep frying, and there is still a lot less oil involved.

Chicken Wings: How to Season Them

My goal with the recipe below is to create an easy-to-make seasoning that is not too heavy and is flexible enough to complement whatever sauce you choose to serve with the wings.

In case you plan on serving the wings without a sauce or dip and you wish to punch up the seasoning a bit, you can double the spices listed in the recipe below if you wish.

If you wish to try a new seasoning, you can use up to 1-2 tbsp of any of the following spices, for example:

  • Ranch seasoning
  • Old bay seasoning
  • Jerk seasoning
  • Steak seasoning
  • Lemon pepper seasoning
  • Cajun seasoning
  • Italian seasoning (with or without Parmesan)

Wing Sauces

It may be your opinion that the best part about eating chicken wings is the flavorful sauces. There are many great options for wing sauce, whether you plan to coat the wings in it or serve it on the side for dipping, so there are a lot of great options for wing sauce.

There are a lot of sauces you can use on chicken wings, but here are some of the best:

  • Peanut sauce
  • BBQ sauce
  • Jerk sauce
  • Teriyaki sauce
  • Buffalo sauce
  • Sweet chili sauce
  • Honey mustard sauce

Chicken Wings: What to Serve with Them

A refreshing combination of crisp chicken wings and cold, crunchy, fresh vegetables is always a welcome accompaniment to chicken wings because the crispy wings are always a good contrast to the cold, crunchy, fresh vegetables.

I think fresh celery and carrots would also work well, as well as broccoli, cauliflower, or grape tomatoes. And of course, veggies usually taste good if they are dipped in the same sauces as your wings (ranch, honey mustard, etc.

The perfect snack for Game Day is this tasty and crispy baked chicken wings that are easy to prepare even for inexperienced cooks, which make them an ideal snack for any game day event.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch ($0.03)
  • 1/2 tsp paprika ($0.05)
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika ($0.05)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder ($0.05)
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder ($0.03)
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper ($0.03)
  • 1/4 tsp freshly cracked black pepper ($0.02)
  • 1/2 tsp salt ($0.03)
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil ($0.08)
  • 2.5 lbs. chicken wings or drumettes ($9.98)

Instructions

  • As soon as you turn the oven on, put a bowl in the oven and combine the cornstarch with the paprika, the smoked paprika, the garlic powder, the onion powder, the cayenne, the salt, and the pepper.
  • If the wings are damp, pat them dry with paper towels, then place them in a bowl and drizzle some cooking oil over the top. Toss the wings in the oil until the oil has coated the wings. Toss in the cornstarch-seasoning mixture, and coat them once more with this mixture.
  • The seasoned chicken wings should be placed on wire racks on top of a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. After that, place a wire cooling rack on top so that the wings can cool evenly. Once everything is ready, place it over the seasoned chicken wings.
  • As soon as the wings have reached the desired amount of browning, flip them over and bake for another 20-25 minutes, or until they have reached the level of browning that you desire (the amount of browning will depend on the size of your wings).
  • You can serve them hot with the sauce of your choice!

How to Make Baked Chicken Wings – Step by Step Photos

As soon as the oven has heated to 400°F, combine 1 tbsp of cornstarch, 1/2 tbsp of smoked paprika, 1/2 tbsp of paprika powder, 12 tbsp garlic powder, 1/4 tbsp onion powder, 18 tbsp cayenne pepper, 1/4 tbsp freshly cracked pepper, and 1/2 tbsp salt in a small bowl.

In a bowl, place the dried chicken wings or drumettes with 1 tsp cooking oil and toss well to coat. Next, add cornstarch-seasoned mixture and toss again to coat. Lastly, add the cornstarch-seasoned mixture and toss to coat once again.

Placed in a bowl with 1 tbsp cooking oil, drizzle 1/2 cup cooking oil across the chicken, and toss thoroughly to coat.

Once the wings are coated in a light layer of oil, cornstarch, and seasoning, a crispy and tasty exterior will be created for them once they have been baked as a result of this mixture.

For easy cleanup, line a baking sheet with parchment paper, place two wire cooling racks on top, and add the seasoned chicken on top of the wire racks with some space between each wing for the wings to get crispy (if the wings are too close to each other, the wings won’t get crispy as they should).

When you start baking the chicken wings in the oven, make sure it is preheated to 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes, then flip each wing over and cook for another 20-25 minutes, or until you achieve your desired amount of browning on the wings.
