Chef and cookbook author Geraldine Gilliland has handed over the keys to the Malibu mountain property she sold for $18 mιllιon a year ago. According to public records, Drederick Irving, the father of Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving, paid $10.7 mιllιon for the property, which was $7.4 mιllιon less than the initial asking price.
The 40-acre “Rancho Chiquita” property has been utilized as a wedding and party venue, a setting for “The Voice” production, and a non-profit dog sanctuary since Gilliland, the owner of Santa Monica’s Lula Cocina Mexicana restaurant, purchased it. On 225 acres with views of the beach and mountains, the gated property contains a main home in the hacienda style as well as a detached residence.
The main house has 6,700 square feet of two-story living space with wood-beam ceilings, Saltillo tile and parquet floors, arched entrances, and clerestory windows. The main level features fireplaces in the living room and formal dining room, a gourmet kitchen with granite countertops, an eat-in island with built-in wine storage, high-end stainless appliances, a walk-in pantry, and a breakfast alcove.
Two wings of the house house all the bedrooms, one with an ocean-view master retreat with a custom fireplace, private patio, roomy cedar-lined walk-in closet, separate fireside sitting room, loft space, and luxurious bath that opens to a terrace with a spa, the other with two main-level bedrooms with access to an outdoor palapa and a lower-level staff/guest suite with two bedrooms, an office, living room, and kitchen.
The expansive grounds have an infinity edge pool and spa, a kitchen and bar, and other outdoor areas for unwinding and mingling, including a grassy area that can accommodate 250 guests. A large car court and an area for event staging are accessible via a secured service entrance.
