This is a simple, delicious and effortless dish. As you can see from this release, there are three different ways to customize the original recipe.

One is to choose another type of noodle, the other is to put it in the dipping sauce. So this recipe used shrimp as a source of protein instead of eggs for the time being. Since shrimp are just as easy to cook as eggs, they can also be a bit more expensive, and you need to add some fresh lime juice to the sauce to add freshness and bring out the seafood flavor.

Is It Possible to Use a Different Type of Noodle?

It is true! I have made variations of Dragon Noodles with many kinds of noodles, my favorite being the wide lo mein noodles, however, these inexpensive ramen noodles work well too.

As a matter of fact, if you are in a pinch, you can even use regular pasta, although if you’re in a hurry, you might want to consider light egg noodles (which are also quite affordable).

Do I Have to Use Shrimp?

I don’t think there is anything wrong with the original Dragon Noodle recipe. The original recipe uses scrambled eggs and I think that would work just as well here, saving you even more money.

Dragon Noodles: How Spicy Are They?

You might want to take care not to overcook the noodles, and you can leave them in a sealed plastic container until they are ready to be served. If you want to lessen the chili spice a bit, then you can use half the amount of sriracha. If you want to make them with no heat, then I suggest trying my Garlic Noodle recipe instead.

Lime Shrimp Dragon Noodles

There are a number of traditional Chinese dishes that can be prepared quickly, easily, and inexpensively at home. This recipe for Lime Shrimp Dragon Noodles features fresh lime juice and tender shrimp.

  • 1/2 lb frozen peeled & deveined shrimp (51/70 size) ($3.00)
  • 2 packs (3 oz. each) ramen noodles ($0.50)
  • 2 Tbsp sriracha ( $0.18)
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce ($0.10)
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar ($0.08)
  • 1 lime ($0.50)
  • 2 Tbsp butter ($0.18)
  • 2 cloves garlic ($0.16)
  • 2 green onions ($0.17)
  • Handful fresh cilantro ($0.10)


  • In a colander, place the shrimp and rinse with cool water until the shrimp has thawed. Leave the shrimp to drain for a few minutes until you are ready to use them.
  • Set aside the sauce and stir it together in a small bowl with the sriracha, the soy sauce, the brown sugar, and the juice of about one lime. Remove from the heat.
  • When you are ready to start the cooking, fill a medium sauce pot with water, place a lid on it, and put the water on high heat to boil. As soon as the water boils, add the ramen noodles (without the flavor packet) and cook until the noodles are tender. Once the noodles are cooked, drain them in a colander (be sure to clean it with soap and water beforehand if you are using the same colander for shrimp) and drain them.
  • When the water is boiling, mince two cloves of garlic while you wait for the water to boil. In the meantime, add the butter, garlic, and shrimp to a large skillet and sauté them over medium heat until they are soft (about one minute). Once the shrimp are pink and opaque, continue sautéing until they have turned opaque (about three minutes). Remove the skillet from the heat and serve immediately.
  • Using a skillet or wok, add the dried noodles to the skillet with the shrimp, then pour the prepared sauce on top and toss the noodles in the sauce until the noodles are coated with the sauce. Top the noodles with the fresh cilantro leaves, sliced green onions and a squeeze of lime juice.

How to Make Lime Shrimp Dragon Noodles – Step by Step Photos

If you would like 1/2 lb. of frozen shrimp that have been peeled and deveined, place them in a colander and run cool water over them.

When ready to be used, let them drain. I chose the 51/70 shrimp size because I found it to be just right. In other words, a pound containing between 51 and 70 shrimp is considered to have approximately 51 to 70 shrimp per pound.

As a last step, you will want to take the time to prepare the dressing for the Dragon Noodles, so you’ll have it ready to go when you’re ready. To prepare this dressing, place together 2 tablespoons of sriracha, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, and roughly 1 tablespoon of lime juice.

A medium saucepot full of water and two packages of ramen noodles (without the seasoning packets) should be brought to a boil, then added to it.

When the noodles are cooked, drain them thoroughly in a colander. Whenever you use the same colander as you used to rinse the shrimp, make sure to wash it thoroughly with soap and hot water prior to draining the noodles.

It is also possible for you to prepare shrimp while the water is boiling. You can sauté two cloves of garlic in a large skillet along with two tablespoons of butter, but don’t brown them, while you’re waiting for the water to boil.

For about a minute, sauté the garlic over medium heat until it softens a bit, gets really fragrant, and does not brown.

Lastly, add the shrimp that have been thawed and drained. Continue sautéing the shrimp until they have turned pink and opaque.

As shrimp cook really quickly, this shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. As they begin to shrink and become very tough, you should remove them from the skillet at this stage as they will become very tough if you continue cooking them.

Lastly, add the noodles to the skillet. Pour the sauce over the top of the noodles, then toss the noodles until all the noodles are coated in the sauce and cooked through.

Cilantro and Green Onions

It would be helpful if you could slice up some onions and pull some cilantro leaves from the stems so that they are ready to use.

Adding the green onions and cilantro to the noodles is a good way to season them. Using the remaining lime to serve the noodles, cut it into wedges and serve.
